HER STORY: In 1999 Marcie Lind started Mom’s Missionary Shopping Service. Since then she has purchased countless items for missionaries and shipped them around the world from her home in Fargo, North Dakota.

Marcie grew up on a Minnesota farm. When her oldest child served as a missionary on the island of Bonaire, Marcie recognized the need for a missionary shopping service. Upon retiring from a nursing career, she offered her services—first to missionaries from her own church and later to other churches and mission organizations.

Missionaries notify Marcie of specific needs by e-mail, telling her their preference for shipping. They request items such as clothing, books, school supplies, computer software, hardware, and toiletries. Whatever the request, Marcie shops locally, on the Internet, and through catalogs. She buys the items and mails them to the missionaries, noting the total cost, including shipping. Marcia adds no service fees. She spends fifteen to twenty hours per week shipping everything from heartburn remedies to replacement truck windows. By seeing a need and meeting it, Marcie has developed a ministry that reaches far beyond her North Dakota home.
